Where to buy rebuild parts for T-56?
Where to buy rebuild parts for T-56?
I'm gonna get someone to rebuild my T-56 pretty soon, I just have to get all the parts though first. Where can I order whatever I need? What all parts are typically replaced in a T-56 rebuild? Where's a good place to buy it all from... preferably some sort of package that will include everything needed to rebuild it? I don't know too much about trannies. I have grinding into 1st, and occasionally 3rd and 5th, and 4th usually just pops out of gear. What all do you think I would need?
I'm looking at this webpage. They have a synchro rebuild kit with carbon fiber synchros. Should I get anything other then the synchros? '99's have aluminum shift forks, correct? So should I also buy the steel shift fork, or new bearings?
Any help and advice is appreciated!

I was going to say ddperformance too. Your problem seems kind of weird. It's only when you switch to a gear on the rear side of the transmission that it grinds. Which is strange, because usually grinding is limited to a specific collar. I wouldn't buy any parts until I knew exactly what was wrong. It's very possible a new transmission is cheaper than fixing this one. Do you have an after market shifter? If so I'd try the stock shifter to make certain the stops in the shifter aren't causing the problem.

They will get you on track. The only thing is with it popping out of 4th, you may need a new imput shaft as fourth is on the imput shaft. If you don't need it, my guess is around 460 bucks for everything shipped to your door that you'd need to be in good shape. This would include new carbon fiber blocker rings, a new 3-4 slider, billet key for that slider, bronze fork pads, and a new 3-4 steel shift fork. I'm pretty sure that would get you back on track and most of the way fixed. Only other thing would be if 4th is messed up.
Certainly wonder around on t56rebuild.com and then give them a call. I was pleased with their customer service and they keep all the parts you'd need in stock. They ship next day air for free on all their parts.

I'm with Demus, it's weird that all the gears that grind are on one side. Get someone to check the shifter rail travel in each direction. It still doesn't explain 4th poping out but it may be related.
Word of advise, ALWAYS tear down the tranny before you go ording parts, you never know what you may need.

Since you don't have to pay additional shipping, I say order the stuff you know you will need. This will atleast give you direction. T56rebuilds.com covers all of their own shipping and gets it out next day air.
I say order your parts, and then if you need a new imput shaft order it when you find out. This is the more logical choice.

It's not the more logical choice if the problem is with the shifter assembly.
Seriously, find out exactly what the problem is before you spend a dime on replacing parts that may or may not be broken.
My "speaking from expensive experience" $.02

By the way, I highly agree with the use of T56rebuilds.com, they are nothing but helpful. Call them, I assure you that they will offer the same advice that I have already given.

Ebay, is cheaper than d&d, alot..
buy a block ring kit -175
Every gear that it pops out buy a syncro for it- 130 each
4th gear is -190
bullet keys-60
look at 2nd and 3rd for wear, miss shifts are hard on these two-120.00 each
I would plan on spending 615.00 for parts , plus labor 250-300.00 and maybe some more is 4th is trashed.
Dont order anything till you take it apart, but that is a ballpark on a price to save up for.
