Input shaft bearing replacement

has anyone replaced their input shaft bearing on a T56? Pulled the tranny to replace the clutch (broken spring wedged in pressure plate) to find that the input shaft was as loose as a wet noodle. Im wondering if you have to tear the whole tranny apart or can you just replace the bearing without setting tedious tolerances.

Re: Input shaft bearing replacement

Maybe someone else can help out more, but i know you can take off the front cover of the t-56 and put it back on, with out tearing the trany down. Just pull and install. As far as shimming i dont know? Something caused it to come loose/break.. Look into that.. 4th gear is only 200.00 , check "The Gear Box" on ebay, but they have a web site too. Bearing at gm is like 35.00. Not sure how to shim it or check for the proper clearances.

good luck , hope what little info i gave helps
