What's up with my LSD?

My SS doesn't have the upgraded LSD ( Auburn ?) but with my old bald tires ( origanal Goodyears) I could get it to slide out really good on the turns and on the upshifts. Safe? No, but fun. I just got new tires. They're Yokohama AVS 1000, same size, but the tread area is a lot wider than the old GY when I matched them up, we're talking several inches here. It scrapes now and then when I have someone else in the car and really rip a turn, especially a downhill one that levels off but thats to be expected with the wider tire. Unfortunenly, while it'll give a good kick to the side on a hard 1-2 shift, it locks up very erraticaly when i try to slide a turn in 2nd or even 3rd. It'll just spin one tire. It'll slide on a 1st gear drop when I turn the wheel, similiar to if you were to do a donut, but I'm starting to get worried now because I'm going to be hitting a high speed race track soon and the last thing I want to be thinking about it how the LSD is going to be acting when I apply throttle coming out of the turn. I also do not want to keep trying to find out the problem by trying to burn away my $712 set of new tires. Could it be I'm just getting too much traction now? I know an LSD doesn't have the same characteritics as a locker, but I've tried purposely overpowering the rear in a turn ( revving up a litlle and popping the clutch in a turn) and am still only getting one tire to spin %75 of the time. Any input would be appreciated.

Sounds like your LSD is done...look at either the Pro series Auburn or an Eaton, especially if you're into road racing...I've been running a Pro series Auburn behind my 420rwhp 383 for 6 years on BFG DRs....still going strong...I know that M6s are harder on rears, but both of the above are good choices...

12 bolts and 9"s are better, but thats a $2300 hit to your wallet...

But the car only has 32k on it. ( i know, all it needs is one bad hit, but still) Like I said, it would do it every time on my old tires, nice quick slides, and nothing else has changed but the tires one week ago. It'll lock up on the straight path from a stop and one the 1-2 and 2-3 shift, it's just one the turns where it's erratic. Is there ( hopefully, fingers crossed) a second opinion? Anyway , how much are those units, plus install? I did it myself on my old car but it was a pain and I would rather have a shop do it.
