What's Umbrella style brakes?

I bought a complete rear for 93 - 97 F-bod off Ebay.
The seller said it has "Umbrella Style parking brake".

What specifically is this? What applications? Would the Imp's use that style?
The mounting flanges for brakes are different than my 95Z28. So I just swapped them out when I placed into my Z.
The overall width dimension of the rear was exact same as my 95Z28, but the mount pad near outer axle bearings forced the brake rotor to rub against the mount. I solved it with washers, but still don't know what rearend I have.
Thanks.

Re: What's Umbrella style brakes?

you bought a rear end and you don't even know what it was? Do you have a link to the auction so we can see some pictures of it.

Yeah,,, I'm a Hot Rodder that enjoys challenges.

I have a MIG welder and some hammers and vice grips, so I can FIX anything.

The rear worked out well, with only trouble being I had to swap my mounting fixtures for brakes from Z onto this mystery rear.

The ebay guy said it was LT1 type and confirmed it would fit my 95Z.... well, it did.

Only trouble is that my 315/35/17's are now pushed ******d 1/8" versus original rear. Anyway... thanks

but if you don't know what kind of rear end you bought how do you know its even any better than the stocker. Although our stock rear ends are about as bad as it can get. Do you have an Ebay link to the auction so we can see pictures.

Re: What's Umbrella style brakes?

You're exactly right.... the rear end is exactly same as my Z, except for that weird band which activates the parking brake. it does look like an umbrella although only about 1.25" width.

so no biggie,,, I just swapped the other goodies onto this unit and it works great.

Thanks for all the help. (Although I still wonder which applications used that antiquated style parking brake.) That style rear may be from 1993 f-body?

It's held up real good, so my gamble with Ebay was just fine. New Eaton posi with 3.23's works great until the nitrous hit knocks it out.
