A rebuild can be risky because some shops just don't know their way around these transmissions and do poor rebuilds. As for buying a used tranny, it would be cheaper then a rebuild, but you don't know the history of it and what exactly you are getting.

Have you thought about sending your tranny to Frank for a rebuild? http://www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com/
He can do a basic rebuild and it will most likely be cheaper then if you were to take it to a local tranny shop.

He is a very reputable 4L60 builder on here, a supporting vendor. His contact info is in that link I gave you. Also, here is his SN on here: 12SCNDZ
You can also try PMing him.

OK...Here I am We do stock 4L60E rebuilds for $700 + hard parts (if any) ,based on your supplied core. If you're looking at more upgrades, then the price goes up slightly. "Performance" build is $800, "Race" is $1000, and "Pro Race" is $1400. The "PR" is a 9 second proven build.
It's all layed out here. www.cahallperformancetransmissions.com
Here's our build sheet.

You won't find any transmission built anywhere else with these parts, for this price. Try a search for "CPT" or "Cahall Performance Transmissions".

As for a used 4L60E? Not a wise investment. These transmission had many design flaws that will probably rear their ugly head in a used transmission. Even if it's one that's been rebuilt, previously, most don't have a clue about these transmissions.

If you have any other questions, feel free to call me. 302-250-1202

Thanks,
Frank
