What year is it?

I have a complete 3rd member rearend out of a Camaro and need to identify the year. The differential is Limited-Slip (LS) 28 Spline with 3.23 ratio. There is a gear ring that drove some type of sensor. I attempted to use the LS unit in a '02 non-LS and to do so, I would need to put the spacer behind the ring gear to set for the correct backlash. I ended up with a Series 3 unit out of a '98 in the '02. Do anyone know what the year(s) would be for this unit with the gear ring? THX........Dewey

The "gear-ring" is the reluctor for the ABS sensor that sits on top of the pumpkin. That ring was used on all LS rear axles from 93-02, but only for the cars without traction control.

What is the overall width of the rear axle assembly? The 4th Gens rears are about 3" wider than the 3rd Gen rears. With the ABS, I'm guessing 4th Gen. The main difference in the 4th Gen rears would be the disc brakes on the LS1 cars being different than the disc brakes on the LT1 cars, particularly the e-brake activation.
