Unhappy What transmission goe's in a 1995 automatic z28

I have a problem with my transmission, and want to know when I go to change it how to determin if I am buying the correct one. I had the problem with a 1989 I had own and went thru 5 trans, before I got the right one. The 95 shifter only drops down to second gear, and when it shifts the first time out it shfts three times but the third time the rpms only drop about 100, and I cannot drive the car for more than 12 miles before it overheats on me. I have changed out all sensor's and the radiator, and waterpump, as well as the thermostat, nothing works I believe someone put in the wrong tran, and when I buy one to put in myself, how do I tell if I am buying the right one for a 95 with a 5.7 motor. Please help this Camaro lover, I want to travel in this car.

A 1995 f-body 4L60E is the only direct replacement. 93s, 94s, 95s, are all different. 96-97s are different from previous years, but same to each other.

You can determine the model year of the transmission by looking at the partial VIN that is stamped on the trans:

On your overheating problem. Have you gotten all the air out of the system? Have you used the correct thermostat?

Like Shoebox said, you need a 95 4l60e with (PWM) pulse width modulation..It will have it stampped in the front pump.

Re: What transmission goe's in a 1995 automatic z28

is this transmission different than other 4L60E's?

Specifically the reason why I ask is that I have a 1999 Tahoe 2WD with too many issues that I really don't want to work on at the movement. It has a 4L60E. Is there any reason I couldn't get that out into my 1995 Camaro? Or even if I just need to swap a few sensors, that would still be a lot cheaper than getting a rebuilt tranny.

Where would I find the stamp at? Is it on the bell housing? Front of actual transmission? Is it inside the bell housing, versus the outside?
