i found it in the pan that shields the torque converter and the flywheel (NOT the transmission pan)............WTF IS IT???? i can see it backed itself out and then was sitting against the pan and rubbing on the torque converter as it spun.

yes it disturbed me as well, thus the reason i am asking WTF it is.........LOL

thanks guys, Scott

It's a bolt that holds the rear main seal housing on. I know because I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was at the end of making an 1/8 mile run and all of a sudden heard this horrible clanging and clattering sound. I thought I had blown the motor up. Upon removing the torque converter shield I found a smaller sized black bolt was loose in there. I wouldn't worry about it, there are three other fasteners that hold the rear main housing on and it shouldn't start leaking.

Going from this description, it has to be a flywheel-to-TC bolt or crank-to-flywheel bolt. It's been a while since i've had the tranny out, but i think those bolts look like that (only the outer part of the body is threaded, the part towards the head is smooth to clear the bolt hole surfaces).

There are only three bolts holding the TC and flywheel (flexplate) together, and either 5 or 6 bolts holding the flexplate to the crank, so you might want to get under there and put it back in ASAP.

The RMS housing bolt could be a possibility, but i figured the flexplate would block it from getting in the inspection cover area.

well i havnt been driving becaue of this......LOL i know i need to get it fixed, haha. i know its not the flywheel to TC bolt cause those are huge. I dont know, im just gonna drop the tranny and figure it out, then replace it.

that might be the best thing to do

Possibly too late but that looks EXACTLY like a flywheel bolt. I could go take a picture of my stock ones if you want me to.

Dude, it looks like the rear main seal plate bolt. Flywheel bolts are way fatter then that....about 1/2" shank. Convertor bolts are about 3/8". That bolt looks about 1/4". Use the blue lock-tite on all of them.
