What tq needed for scatter shield?

This salesman just tried to sell me a scatter shield, a kevlar vest that goes over your transmission if your flywheel bolts decide to snap on a hard launch. I was wondering if other M6 owners have done this and if so at what HP/TQ... I do plan on launching at high rpms and dont want my legs to be decapitated.
thanks

Probebly alot higher than just a Heads and Cam engine.

I imagine your clutch would slip long before the bolts on the flywheel sheered

it is a kevlar stage 2 clutch, 450rwhp rated, pretty good gripping...
I am not saying I need one, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening on our cars and if so, what hp?
thanks

I'd like more information on this also. Who's running a blanket on their M6 and at what point are they necessary? Or is it just "insurance". I've only heard one LT1 "horror" story of a flywheel coming up through the floor and almost slicing the car in two. I'll bet that driver wish he had a scattershield.

Re: What tq needed for scatter shield?

I have posted my pictures several times. This is on a cammed / stock head car. Oem clutch setup. The bellhousing doesn't look too bad in the picture, but there were 5-6 different gashes all @ 3inches each. There is a hole through the firewall and up into the wheel well from one piece now.

If I had money to throw around I would def buy myself one now. This was a freak occurance, but who knows.

Re: What tq needed for scatter shield?

NHRA requires an SFI-rated bellhousing if you run faster than 11.50 in the 1/4-mile, or run slicks. In the "early days" of the LT1/F-Body, there was nothing available for the LT1 that was SFI-rated. I had a ballistic nylon shield that had been converted from one for an auto tranny flex-plate shield.

Now there may be an SFI-rated bellhousing available. I know the one that McLeod makes for there "universal" T56 install kit is SFI-rated, but I think that it only works with the LS1-style T56. Someone else may make an explosion proof bellhousing by now.

NHRA also requires an SFI-rated flex-plate shield for automatics running faster than 10.00 seconds.

Ya need to get a STEEL scatter shield if ya are running a clutch.

Better than being on crutches for the rest of your life.
