What are the symptoms of a bad throwout bearing???

Having some issues with my T56 after a long drive where the car has been on the freeway for over an hour.

When I downshift coming off a freeway ramp or something, I hear a funky grinding noise coming from the trans. Not the same as scratching a synchronizer, its a low pitch grind as I let the clutch out. If I push the clutch pedal in and out before hitting the gas, it'll do it multiple times.

After I am off the freeway and doing stop and go driving, it'll do it downshifting into every gear pretty much.

At first it was only the forward gears for some reason, i.e. downshifting to 5th and 3rd, but now it's pretty much every gear.

IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN DAY TO DAY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.

I feel like it would be the throwout bearing getting super hot from the driving and maybe binding or something as I down shift because the bearing is hitting a much higher rpm from the engine than it is from the drivetrain.

IT ONLY HAPPENS ON A DOWNSHIFT, NOT ANYTHING ELSE.

The clutch is a centerforce dual friction with 36k on it.

Anyone have any ideas????

Matt
