What stall with 3.23?
What stall with 3.23?
I'm looking to buy a yank converter. I am trying to decide between a 2800 and a 3000. I've obviously got 3.23 gears, and the rest of my mods are in the sig. I've purchased a tranny cooler and a shift kit to go with whatever converter i get. It's a daily driver, and does 1.5 hr highway drives about once a month. I 'may' purchase the hotcam kit within the next 3-5 months. What do you think?

Re: What stall with 3.23?
2800 sounds good to me i have the 3:23.1's as well and just ordered a TCI 3000 stall from summit, not planning on a shift kit but might go with a tranny cooler. One objective for myself BEAT MY OLD CAR! I'm thinkin we got this one covered. We meaning myself and my LS1. Good luck man sounds like a good setup.
Re: What stall with 3.23?
My vig 2800 with my 3.42 is very streetable you don't even know the stall is there really until you floor the car. I would go up to a 3000 or maybe 3200 if did it again. I bought mine used so no free restall and install labor is expensive if you have someone do it to take it out and put it back. Not sure how tight the yanks are but if they are like the vig then a 3000 to even 3200 should be no big deal at all in a daily driver.Just don't expect to be any faster off the line on street tires. I had to put nittos on my car to get a decent 60ft out of it. Didn't matter much how you feathered or tried to launch on the stock tires although here a few new tires are almost as good as drag radials.
Re: What stall with 3.23?
step up to 224/230 (comp 503). and go with a yank 3600.
You will not regret. Yank told me to go 3600 if I had any thuoght about going to 3.73. I'm running 3.23's right now but about to step up to 3.73's.

Re: What stall with 3.23?
If the converters are the same in all other repects? An actual difference of just 200rpm will be insignificant. But often a manufacturer is referring to two entirely different converters when the use stall speed to deisgnate them, which is inherently misleading anyway. A given "3,000 stall" converter may stall anywhere from 2,500-3,500 for a particular application. You really should call the manfacturer, they are the best source of advice on their products. Just be sure you are talking to someone who knows something. Ask for "tech", not "sales" for starters. If they don't seem to know what you are talking about, call someone else.
The last converter I bought (Coan) involved at least 45 minutes on the phone over a couple of calls. Usually, with a more standard combo, the conversation will last 5-10 minutes. They will want to know a lot of information about the car and how you drive it. The conclusion should be "I recommend our xxx converter which should stall at about yyy rpm in your application." If they won't talk to you at this level, go elsewhere.

Rich speaks the truth here.
I dealt with Edge, and they recommended the same converter that I had in mind after they got all the info about my car.
I went with the Street Edge 3000 RPM converter, set up for mainly NA use, and I'll be spraying occasionally.
Also, when getting and installing a converter, it's wise to go ahead and install a cooler as well. The extra slippage of the converter will build extra heat (I'm assuming) and heat is the enemy for the transmission. Besides, a good transmission cooler isn't expensive.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
I just got mine installed this weekend, and it's taking a bit of getting used to. I'm looking forward to getting some more miles on it before I really lean on it. I'm itching to mash that pedal and see what it's got. I also installed a built transmission at the same time, a pre-emptive measure.
