What RPM stall convertor to get?

I asked this earlier today and I guess I should have been a little more clear on what I was asking! I need to know what RPM stall is best for the car described:
The engine is stock for now, the rear is is a factory 273 unit. We are looking for something a little better than the stock components provide. The plans are to do some engine upgrades this summer such as heads, cam, etc.. and to up the rear ratio to 373. What convertor would be best in this application? Also, what "shift kit" or overhaul kit should we go back with? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I got the tranny out and ready to head to the shop, I just need to know what to go back with!

Go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?f...ct&productid=5 this will give you the parts to do this right the first time. As for torque converter I would do this first, before making any rear end gear ratio change. The Vigilante is the way to go if you want the most in ET, and warranty, 2-year with a free stall change if needed.

Whats your budget , How much you want to spend and how fast you want to go. There are alot of things to choose from we need to know where your going with it , Daily driver , street strip , ***** to the walls fast ETC. With 273s its going to feel real loose with a decent converter , I would not go over 3500stall TCI ssf is a great buy for the money , with 373s and ***** to the walls fast IMO a yank pt4400 is a great converter , would go good with the 373s.

I'd say 3200 stall if your a LT1 or 3800 stall if your an LS1.

Go 4000+ (Yank PT4400 is a monster) if it's a track only car and or you don't care about alot of looseness.

Good Luck and don't forget the tranny cooler. Shift kit is a definate plus as well.

Ok here is what I just picked up: A transgo stage 2 HD shift kit,
a 2nd gear corvette servo, and a HD tranny overhaul kit. THANK YOU Pro Built Automatics! Your post and link gave me some great info to build from. I went to a local tranny shop here called Dacco Detroit and the lady there was EXTREMELY helpful as well. She looked over your list and got me the things she was sure I would need and told me we could add what we wanted after we got into it and saw what was bad and what was not.
About the convertor: I was told that in order to go with a high performance stall, I owuld have to go into the pump and change some things. Is this true? I was told I could go up to a 2200 stall with the pump and set up I have but 2600+ was too much for the pump. With my stock convertor, a DGCE or something like that, he said it was a 16, if it had been a 15? I could have gone with the 2800 stall. ANY INPUT ON THIS!? Im lost.

I call BS on that one, why do you have to change the pump many of use are running the stock trannies with no problems(yet). If your gonna buy a converter only buy one and know where you are going with the car performance wise. You are going to need some kind of tuning no mater what you do so you may as well go with a 3500 stall. PCM for less , MadZ28 .

If the transmission is apart, yoo can add the Trans-Go steel rings (known as No Yo Yo) & priming spring. There are two different setups, standard for 5,500 rpm WOT shifts or below, and Hi-rpm for WOT shifts above 5,500 rpm. You will add the larger boost valve & related parts from Trans-Go while you are in there. I do not know what she is talking about. If your pump is a 10 vane setup?, do not go to a 13 vane. If it came with a 13 vane setup?, then keep it that way.

I have a TCI breakaway stall in my car and if it was a daily driver it would be perfect but I am not driving the car as much as I thought I would (it aint cause I don,t want to) so in hindsight I would have gone a little bigger on the stall.
