What is needed to convert from 4l60E to 700R4

I have a 94 Z28 with a 4L60E and am converting to a non electronic 700R4. my question is this, Is there anything I need to change on my car to make it work properly? The 700R4 has a reverse manual valvebody and is built to handle alot of power.

Since its a manual valve body you won,t have to worry about a TV cable.
You will have to send the PCM off to Madwolf or someone to delete the transmission program in the PCM.
Not sure about the VSS in a 700R4 or if it even has one, you might need a speedo fix but maybe not.....maybe someone will post that knows.
Driveshaft should fit no problem. Torque arm should be fine.

depends on the year the 700R4 was made also.

if you have one that has a cable speedo drive, pm me, I have
the dakata digial cable drive to vss output converter, bought it for
my TH350 swap and ended up going with a 93 4L60 so I don't need it.

To get the speedo to work on a 700r4, remove speedo gears and pound on a 4l60e 40-pin reluctor. Then swap the VSS with a 4L60e vss. I have heard GM dealerships sell the 4l60e vss as a kit with the reluctor included.

Re: What is needed to convert from 4l60E to 700R4

i have been looking over many of the threads here and trying to further understand trannys (not the ones on the corners). From what im understanding, you have to have a TV cable for your tranny to right and last longer? Or am I misunderstanding something? Im thinking of switching to a 700R4 after my 4L60E has gone out 5 times within the last 7-8k miles, and was said to have been able to handle 4-500 hp which my car does not have, so Im trying my best to get a better understanding of transmissions so any help would be appreciated.

With a manual valve body you won,t need a TV cable.
You shift it yourself all the time......upshifts and downshifts.

Its a manual without a clutch.

so the 700r4 would bolt rite up to the motor/driveshaft/torque arm..and u dont need to do anything but to get the pcm/speedo adjusted

All the 4L60E is, is an electronically controlled 700R4. Internally they are pretty much the same thing so I doubt if the 700R4 would hold any more power than a 4L60E would.

As far as I know the TV cable controls more than just shift points and you still need to run one with a manual valve body.

no, all the tv cable does is control fluid press. and shift points. if you have a manual valve body, it will be locked to full pressure all the time. been thinking of putting one of those in my next 700r4. Ive had a 700r4 in my car for years now and it will all bolt right up. I used a tv cable/throtle cable bracket from a 93Fbody since they have the 4L60 trans. which is basically a 700r4. and yes, if you get the speedo sensor and reluctor wheel from a 93 Fbody you'll be all set. cheap too. to swap the reluctor wheel you'll have to remove the tailshaft housing from the trans and slide off the gear. its held on with a very simple little clip. slide the new clip/reluctor wheel on and put the tail housing back on and your done.
