What clutch would you guys suggest...

Clutch time for me. Sprayed my Camaro at the track this weekend (still on the factory clutch with 80k on it Hehehe). Got one good run out of it anyway, but the second run ended up launching on the bottle even though I had an RPM switch and that sucker screamed for mercy! The ET streets didn't help matters either. Hehe. Anyway, it still drives on the street fine, but want to replace it as soon as possible. I'm only really considering 2 clutches at this point. SPEC or the Street Twin. Which would would be a better choice? And if SPEC, which stage setup? My car is putting down about 390hp and 580ft/tq at the rear wheels. I'm looking for a clutch thats gonna hold so good and last so long that my stock 7.5 rear will blow so I can put a 12 bolt in it. Haha. Anyway, all input would be welcome. Thanks.

I would highly recommend going with a McLeod Street Twin. I have seen several SPEC clutches fall apart. The only bad thing about going with a Street Twin is that is extremely hard on the drivetrain.

Street twin hands down, its easy on the street but when you get to the track bad things will happen...

What made you think the stock driveshaft would last? Did you get a replacement?

Gone long ago...

The stock driveshaft was tossed long ago. Have front and rear loops just in case though. I would guess the 7.5 inch wimpy rear would give up before my driveshaft, especially since i've already lost a ring and pinion on the street before even without the bottle.

Is the 390 you're putting out on the bottle or is that N/A or "all the time?" If it's just on the bottle, and you don't do too much racing, I'd recommend the McLeod single disc setup. Much cheaper, and said to hold 400+ HP no problem.

The street twin is great, but you're gonna KILL your stock rear in a heartbeat with E.T. Streets and the bottle.

Fastbird...

Fastbird, the 390 is on the bottle and its actually more like 500. I know the stock 10 bolts life is limited and am already planning on a 12 bolt. I'm just gonna run it till she blows.

I know it sounds like "me too", but the Street Twin is an awesome clutch. Mine stood up to serious abuse (over 700rwhp in a 4,000lb+ car). But I wonder if a single disc might not be enough for your hp level.

I agree..

I agree Rich. I'm going twin myself. Think the Nitrous on my setup is just too much of a hit for a single disc. Thanks.

I LOVE my street twin, its just to bad I cant really drive the car anymore because I killed my rear about 100 miles after breaking it in for 700 miles. I did 4 WOT runs from a 20 mph roll up to 120. then 1 terrible launch, my 60 ft was prolly around a 2.8 lol But it wasnt that bad for my first launch ever :P And then I drove home.... on the way I closed up my duel electric cutouts because something didnt sound right.... yeah that was my rear end whining... and it makes a thunk if i make a left turn at anything above crawling... 1,500$ dollars left untill I can afford my 12 bolt and drive the car again :P

ummmm yeah after going off on a tangent.... I would definatly go w/ the ST even w/ my blown rear I would still get it again.

One more note, trying to launch the ST on anything other than slicks is the proverbial impossibility. I thought I could launch pretty good on my street tires for an M6, low 1.9's. But, when I went to the ST, my best short time has been a 2.10. sucks, kills your ET, but it's kinda cool hearing all three shifts barking the tires on the track.
