Well the trans needs a rebuild.

I figured if I need a rebuild I might as well get a torque converter and a shift kit. This is a daily driver so I need a converter that won't make my car stall every time I back out of my drive way. And what kind of kit should I get? I have a 99 z.

i havent heard of any stall converters making your car actually stall when your driving it, so i think you can toss that thought out the window. im not exactly sure which stall you should get but i bet a 3000 stall would be great on your car. im sure someone else will chime in with some better replies. see ya

I have a magazine that has LS1 do's and don'ts from some pretty smart mechanics...they recommend a 3,000 or a 3,300 stall torque converter. That's in Super Chevy May 2004 issue with many other good advice. Also my next advice depends on your car. When my tranny went out I did some research and found out the transmission isn't built to hold too much more HP than the car came with stock. So depending on how much mod you have done to your car, there's ways to beef up the stock 4L60E transmission. All that info is in GM High-Tech Performance Nov 2003 issue.

Good luck to ya!

Oh..with beefing up the transmission, mine was under warranty so the dealership wouldn't take the extra money I offered for the better parts, so I had to go along with the stock parts again Next time maybe!

hey wookies i have that super chevy mag also, thats really the reason i got it was to read about the LS1 stuff, it is so intriguing. i believe they said that if you get a larger stall than 3400 you would need a tune on your PCM. thats why i just suggested a 3000 stall. thought it would be a good happy medium
