Well.... clutch related issue
Well.... clutch related issue
Ok so brief history on clutch. It was put in around 75k and I have 108k now. Spec stage2.
The problem...... I am driving down the road today, casual driving, when I go to push clutch in and hear a pop and constant grinding noise. I pull over as fast as i can, but the car stalls immediately. I felt the clutch pedal and it was stiff and solid, so i knew that the slave cylinder was in a bind and did not force it down.
My first instinct was that the clutch fork came off the throwout, and was making the grinding noise. Is this possible?
I get under the car after being towed back to my house, and remove the slave cylinder. It appears that the rod that comes out of the boot moving free within the boot. I cannot remember how it is supposed to be oriented. Anybody know more about the slave?
I reach into the tranny and feel the fork, and it is freely movable, not sure what is going on there, but do not want to remove tranny unless I have to.
Is it possible for a throwout bearing to completely come out of the fingers on the pressure plate?
I know things were put together the right way, but im just trying to pinpoint what broke. If it is the slave, would that cause the fork to back out and make the grinding noise? I will take pics of the slave tomorrow morning.
I know that the fork was oriented correctly on the throwout, as I had to go back and correct that when the original install took place.

Got it torn down and fixed. Turned out that it was the forks retention bolt that snapped letting the fork come off get in a bind. Besides the towing home it was a .75 cent bolt and some new synthetic fluid for the trans.
