3:23s or 3:42s need some help...
Im goin to get some gears put in soon on my 94 pontiac trans am and i need to decide between 3:23s or 3:42s. I have 2:73 in there now and its a automatic. I want a good gear that will give me a good amount of pull and lower my times at the track a good bit. I still want to be able to drive it on the highway and long trips with out having the rpms up high and putting stress on the motor. If anybody has some input that would be awesome! Also if anybody has any of these ratios or knows what the rpms are like at like 60-75 mph that would be real helpful. Thanks!
I went from 2.73 to 3.42 but got a deal on a low mileage complete rear from an M6 car and installed a TC - if I was just doing gears I would've gone with 3.73. To see what your RPMs will be for different gears play with the calculator at www.f-body.org/gears/
i have a set of original GM 3.42s made for our cars lying around if you guys want them 60shipped to your door. very little mileage on them. i just decided to go with 4.10s with the set up i currently have. pm me if you want them.
