Weight Diff. T-56-turbo-400
Re: Weight Diff. T-56-turbo-400
T-56 is about 150 lbs. That's how much it weighed when I paid to have the whole T-56 conversion setup sent to me about 4 years ago. I'm not sure on the weight of a TH-400...
Re: Weight Diff. T-56-turbo-400
Having done a T56 to TH400 swap and switched back I can tell you an auto tranny with no OD and a loose converter really ruins the fun on the street. So, think long and hard about how you use the car and what you really want. As far as weight, the TH400 weighs ~140lbs dry, without a converter. A converter is ~30lbs and with a deep pan figure ~70lbs for fluid. The converter/flexplate should be about the same weight as a clutch/flywheel. So, they are about the same.
BTW: the TH350 is only ~20lbs less than a 400. As I have stated in a prior thread, IMHO a TH350 swap makes no sense for most 4th gen combos. If you are willing to lose the OD of a modern automatic and the efficiency of a manny tranny, get something that will be bulletproof.
