Viper 6spd in an IROC
Viper 6spd in an IROC
I blew the 700R4 up and I'm thinkin bout swappin to a 6spd and I would rather the Vipers's T56 for durabilaty and strength. I know about the upper console change and hanging all the nessessary hardware, but what else do I need (cross member, custom driveshaft?) Are there any kits avail, or do I have to change anything to get it in there and going from auto to manual, are all the templates and stuff already visable on the firewall and stuff since these cars were punched out to accept both trannys??
Basically, besides getting the trans and upper console, pedals, what else do I need to get to bolt this in???

I think different flywheel, bellhousing, clutch, all hardware(pedals, wiring, shifter, stick console, etc.),PCM for a manual car, manual crossmember. Not sure what else. I believe 4th gen driveshafts will work in 3rd gen's also, and both M6 and A4 shafts will work. I think I've heard a driveshaft out of M6 cars are a little stronger though. Hope this helps somewhat. I think you can get a complete kit from somewhere with everything you need including the tranny for around $1,500 bucks. Can't remember where it's at though, and I believe it's for 4th gen. Most stuff might work for you though.
the gm/viper t56 from d&d performance will work assuming using a stock 5-speed bellhousing from an 85-92 car, except : their bellhousing adapter doesn't come drilled for the 17 degree rotation in the stock t5 bellhousing, but they'll do it. Tranny x-member is different, need to relocate it, but uses gm tranny mount. the output yoke is from a hemi mopar part, but you can get it from denny's driveshafts and they'll build you the whole ds with correct yoke. shifter location, trans mount location all the same as the usual t56 swap.
