vigilante torque converter
i have a vig 3600 converter sitting here that I bought a little bit ago.. What kindof a STR do vigilante converters use? i'm trying to figure out if I want to use it or if I want to just sell it and go with a custom 3600 converter with a 3.5 stator
don't really feel like typing all the mods to the car, but it is pretty much a heads/cam/nitrous car that will be making around 375+rwhp on the motor and then there's the 150 shot.

Re: vigilante torque converter
The Vigs have 2.5 STRs for their street/strip applications. They can be made to go higher, but are very $$$. Check out www.converter.com and read "the truth about STRs". I've been running a Vig 3600 since 1996. Its truely an awesome piece. I got 5 solid tenths over my old 11" LPE converter that came with my 383 package. And it was a custom ordered piece. I was on the phone with a rep for 1 hr going over my combo before we decided on the stall speed which would work the best. Give them a shout and see if the 3600 you have is right for your needs. ( I forgot to ask if you bought it new from Precision...If so then you should already know that it will work...)

"don't really feel like typing all the mods to the car" If you want the right torque converter to match your vehicle, all pertaining information is needed, there is no way around this.
Re: vigilante torque converter
well I know that the 3600 stall speed is exactly what I need.... lloyd is doing the heads and cam and reccommended 3400-3600 for that cam.. the car will prolly only be making around 500 to the wheels with the nitrous so i'm sure the vigilante converter (or fuddleracing, the custom converter with a higher STR) should be able to handle that. Only thing I was looking besides STR... but after researching a bit and realizing that most companies have no way of measuring what the actual STR of their converters is, i have decided to just go with the vigilante converter.
Re: vigilante torque converter
It still wouldn't hurt for you to call Precision and discuss your entire combination with them just to make sure the stall will be right. I know that when I had them make one for my Chevelle it helped to have an engine dyno sheet, too. I know that in most cases this is not possible, but if it helps, Vicki at PI told me that a good guideline for a street/strip application is to use a stall speed which is 900 rpm below the torque peak of the engine. My leaned on ZZ4 made peak at 4700rpms and the converter worked out to be a 3800 stall. This is just a guideline and not set in stone and for street/strip set ups...Obviously track only cars will be different....Just something to think about.
Just so happens that my 383 made peak tq at 4500 and my vig is a 3600...I didn't know when my tq peak was when we ordered the converter but their formula for stall speed was dead on....
PI charges $225 to freshen and restall one of their converters in the event you want to do this...
