Vigilante Torque Converter

Has anyone on here tryed the Vigilante Tourque Converter's like they advertise in GM High-Tech? I hear they are supposed to drop like 4-5 tenths in the quarter. I find it hard to believe, but I know it's possible.

Re: Vigilante Torque Converter

Vigilante from precision industries have been around forever.I think if you look at sigs on here you will see lots of people that run them.I have never had one personally but picked up one off the board lately. Its a 2800 vig.Its not in the car until spring though so can't give a personal review but rest assured the converter and any stall will work and work well and do pretty much what they say in the ads. These are products that actually work.
A converter is probably the best first mod for an auto car.It will really wake it up,especially if you have the really crappy 2.73 option like I did.I changed out my gears first and now doing the stall but the stall would have helped a lot even with my 2.73s. I am talking about my 96 vert here not my ls1 its a 6 speed.
I also put a cheaper b and m into my 80 trans am and that also made a big difference in that car.
If you can afford one of these then just get it .You won't be sorry unless you get maye a 3600 or something.I would say for most lt1 a 2800 to 3000 is probably perfect.3200 might be getting a bit up there and a bit better suited to ls1 cars. Also the vigs are supposed to stall a bit higher than their ratings.
They also will give a free restall if you buy them new.Not sure if that transfers over to new owner. And they have a period to do it in I think.

I am pretty excited to get mine in the car.I have faith I won't be disappointed.

Re: Vigilante Torque Converter

Been running a 3600 Vig since 1996. Got 5 tenths over the LPE converter that came with the LPE 383 package...Drive it anywhere. I just had it freshened last year only because I was rebuilding the trans...Precision said that it was still in fantastic shape...Highly recommend it...

Re: Vigilante Torque Converter

I Have a Vig. I went big because the car isn't a daily driver anmore and now I am going to start giving it more goodies! I need the trans rebuilt so I figured I would get the converter now instead of pulling the trans again anytime soon. Not sure if the converter itself will give you .5 of your ET but it will help then you had to deal with traction. But from dead hook without to dead hook with I can see a good increase like the ads say!

Re: Vigilante Torque Converter

i LOVE my vig. i have a 3200 stall with a 2.5 STR. it's true that they are underrated.....VERY underrated. my converter actually stalls at 3800 RPM despite the rating. i went 12.11 with my old TCS 3400 (true 3400) and the car is definitely quicker with this converter.

There's a certain launch technique that i've found is somewhat unique to Vig's (not completely unique but most other converters work the normal way). Rather than stalling up as high as possible and just releasing the brake. These converters leave much harder when they're "flashed" (stall up to a low RPM, say 1200-1400 rpm and stab the throttle as soon as you come off the brake.) If you have the traction, you can get out HARD like this!

you'll need at least some sticky tires and if possible, some suspension mods to take advantage of one of these as they put down some serious torque pretty quick.
