Very Odd T56 Problem -HELP-
Very Odd T56 Problem -HELP-
I bought a used T56 a few years ago and installed it into my 96 Impala 2 years ago. It has been working fine but after smoking the SPEC 2 clutch earlier this year launching on ET Streets, I decided to rebuild the tranny (Since it was used with an unknown history) since I had to pull it to replace the clutch. Uppon disassembly we were plesently surprised on how good the tranny looked overall. I upgraded the 3-4 shift fork, replaced 3rd gear and 3rd gear syncro since it was warn from the bent fork.
Now here is my problem/question. As we took it apart, we noticed that the reluctor was making contact with the VSS. The tranny guy had never seen this before and did not really have a reason for it. We put the tranny back together with all new bearings/upgrades/syncros and checked the clearences. Everything seems fine. So I just got the tranny installed last weekend and it was making a terrible noise on accel/decell, shaking and generally causing me to be concerned. Last night I removed the VSS and it had been making contact with the reluctor again. So I spaced it out 1/8 of an inch and a majority of the noises disappeared.
I called D&D and they said they have never had this happen and suggested maybe the sensor was for a Ford as they are longer but did not think that it would actually fit/bolt up. So I am turning to you all for suggestions. Can somebody who has a VSS sitting around for the T56 please measure it? It is only on accel/decell so something would have to be moving inside for it to be making contact "sometimes". What could cause this? Any tests I could do to rule out other possible issues?? HELP????
Thanks,
TOM B

Re: Very Odd T56 Problem -HELP-
No suggestions or help with this one?? I did install a ST (but was very careful on installing it properly as per instructions) along with rebuilding the tranny. Somebody please help or suggest something. This is driving me crazy!!!! I did find that it is making the most noise in 4th gear. All other gears sound normal except for a little "BUZZZZZ" on decel.
Help???
