Urethane tranny mount - thumbs DOWN

Well, I felt that familiar thud on the floorboard yesterday, which has been
indicative of a whacked tranny mount. That would be the 4th in 9 months!

Today, I knew I had a "left over" urethane tranny mount from the 3-point
kit I bought (2 engine / 1 tranny kit from Prothane). I've already installed
the urethane engine mounts, but hesitated installing the tranny mount
because Dave at Yank recommended against using it and because of all the
folks out in LT-land recommended against it.

But ... I had a borked tranny mount and I wanted to at least be able to drive
the car at a moments whim, so I swapped out the broken mount with the
urethane mount. Twenty minutes later, I'm done.

OUCH! As soon as I fired up the car, I knew I didnt want this mount to live
much longer on the tailhousing. Sure, I could live with it, but it is VERY
annoying - the vibrations are distracting, even if it means the women will like it

My recommendation - stay away from the urethane tranny mount !

I never noticed a big increase in vibration at all. Very minor right at first, now I don't notice it at all.

I feel the same way about the motor mounts. The vibes were awful. Pulled them in favor of rubba.

I've had the same opinion of the poly tranny mount being installed on its own. HOWEVER, this year I installed Prothane poly motor mounts as well as the poly tranny mount, and the vibrations are minimal, almost non-existant!! It's night and day the difference ... I'm shocked and quite happy!

Every car must be a little bit different?!

Obviously. I had no issues with the urethane motor mounts on their
own - it's when I added the urethane tranny mount that makes it
unbearable.

To "bombebomb" - which mounts do you have installed?

I have engine and tranny polly mounts... i LOVE them. No odd vibes. Besides, the rubber one would just mask the vibes. You need to adress the reason for the vibrations, not cover them up with a rubber bushing... Doesn't that make sense?

Makes perfect sense.

I think what I'm experiencing (vibrations) are just the "normal" vibrations
that are inherent of the reciprocating engine/tranny assemblies. Are y'all
suggesting that the engine or torque converter or 4L60E are out of balance?

The vibrations are not throughout the MPH/RPM range - the vibrations are only
at very specific MPH/RPM [combination] ranges. Maybe what I should do is
to record the ranges that the vibrations are occurring.
