U-Joint Questions. Knocking.
U-Joint Questions. Knocking.
under normal acceleration, i get a knocking from the rear area of the car...or what seems to be. it increases with frequency as i accelerate, but as soon as i let off the gas, it goes away.
i did do a search and i noticed other people had this problem.
im assuming it is a u-joint, but i have some questions about it.
my dad is pretty mechanically inclined compared to myself, so i think we could handle any repairs.
1. how hard would it be on a scale of 1-10 to replace a u-joint?
2. is my suspicion of the u-joint correct?
3. how much would a part replacement cost?
4. what would i expect to pay if i get it professionally replaced?
5. what is a u-joint responsible for?
i did read one thread where a couple guys had some teeth missing on their pinions in the read end. could this be my culprit, or is it more than likely the u-joint?

Re: U-Joint Questions. Knocking.
If they have never been done before the hardest part is getting the old ones out due to the plastic injection. Other than that its a piece of cake. Just make sure you get the snap rings seated completely.
