pinion seal eliminate vibes?
pinion seal eliminate vibes?
my car has a vibration in it that feel like the driveshaft. the shaft goin into the "hogs head" is lose and theres liquid around the area (i have pics if they help) so i know my seal is busted. there is fluid in the houseing though. sooooo if i replace the seal will that help the lose input shaft or is it something INSIDE the hogs head???
Re: pinion seal eliminate vibes?
You're talking about the pinion shaft in the diff, right? If the pinion shaft and yoke at that end of the DS are able to move around, then the pinion nut is loose, and NO, replacing the seal won't do a damn thing!!!
Why do you think the pinion seal is leaking in the first place?!
(well, except for the fact that they're notorious for leaking anyways
).
You should immediately get your pinion nut checked out to make sure it's snug, and not backed off. If you're lucky, the bearing will still be ok, and as long as the diff isn't making any noise, then you should be on your way again. But if that pinion has been loose for awhile, then you could have problems such as a bad pinion bearing or both, and/or your gears could be scored from the pinion driving in too deep. Don't drive around too much with things the way they are, or you could have bigger issues arise (right now you don't necessarily have to even pull the cover off the diff).
