Truetrac Rearend Opinion

Hey guys, I own a 94 z28, ive modded pretty much every thing there is to mod, the Rear end is one of he last on the list, currently i have a stock 227, i recently acquired a 243 truetrac rearend, just wanna get your thoughts on the gains youve noticed by doing this and if its worth throwing this particular one in

Gains on a rearend? You may notice the car acting differently if the gearing is changed, but the only thing you will ever see by chaning the rear end is strength. So if you werent breaking things before, you really shouldnt need to change.

Also, if the numbers you are referring to are the gears, I think you may be a bit mixed up. Stock autos came with ~323 depending on year, and manuals with ~353.

I just installed a Moser 12 with 33 spline tru-trac. 373 gears. I think I like it. It has good torque bias between both wheels. I broke my 7 1/2 with the Torsen diff. So far it has taken all the load from a 383 - D1 - afr 190 heads.

You might want to read the guidelines on posting. We prefer that you put posts in the tech forums in the correct forum.... e.g. a question about a differential belongs in "Drivetrain", not in "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". I'll move it to the correct forum for you.

Some tech info:

Automatics came with either 2.73 or 3.23 rear axle ratio, irrespective of year. All 94 and up manuals had 3.42 gears.

And yes, you can "gain" by changing the rear, if the "lockup" characteristics are better suited to the particular type of driving you do.... e.g. road racing, auto-X vs drag racing. And obviously changing gear ratios can change your ET.
