Trouble staying in reverse.

I have a problem with my TA and it wanting to pop out or reverse. It's an M6. When I go to put it into reverse I have to push the stick up into reverse and hold it there with some force. Then as I let the clutch out slowly I can feel a bit of a 'slip' or 'clunk'. It as though something is not engaging properly. I have to hold the stick in place or else it will pop out and I get a nasty 'grinding' noise.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

alot of people have had this problem if you do a search I'm sure you will find the solution. I can't remember what it is though.

Re: Trouble staying in reverse.

I've been doing a little more research. It sounds like it might be the reverse synchro. According to other posts, this problem is common after hitting reverse while searching for 5th gear.
My question is: does anyone have a procedure for taking this apart? I'm not overly familiar with transmissions.

Re: Trouble staying in reverse.

do a search for shoebox, in his sig is a link to his tech page.
in his tech page is the manual for rebuilding the t56

download and/or print it out

follow the directions for pulling the rear housing off and pull the speedo gear ect. until you get to the syncro, then flip it around and put it all back together, it's time consuming but way better than having your trans rebuilt be a shop.

good luck, have fun!
