Possible to shim a flywheel???

OK, I have an LT1 flywheel that should be good, but has been cut down more than .030" as far as I know.
As far as I have heard, LT1 slave cyl's dont have enough throw on them to compensate if the flywheel has been cut down more than .030".

However in another post someone mentioned shimming the flywheel...so if this is possible how is it done? Do you have to buy a special flywheel shim kit, or are there just washer style shims that would work?

(PS: I had ordered a new flywheel from GM but they have been on backorder for more than a week, and mistakenly my old one was allready cut so I have to pay for that anyway...so I might as well use it rather than paying $180 for a new one that I may not need.)

Re: Possible to shim a flywheel???

Yes you can shim it. I had 15/1000 taken off my stocker the first time I replaced the clutch. The machine shop gave me 15/1000 shims to use with it, they go between it and the crank. I'm taking my clutch out this weekend, if it has to be cut again I'll just re shim it. Its worked fine since.......well, other than me killing the SLP clutch in 10k miles

Re: Possible to shim a flywheel???

Sounds good...but I would like to get a bit more imput...
My Boss at Advance Auto seemed to think it was a really bad idea to put shims behind the flywheel, because he thought they could possibly break.
But I guess if you killed a clutch in 10k you were really beating on it eh...
