Re: trany wont shift out of first gear help

That's odd because yesterday my tranny started doing the exact thing. I wasn't racing though. It won't shift til 3000 rpm either. i pulled the tranny pan this afternoon and there is metal flake all over in the fluid. I have no idea what the problem is so maybe someone can help us out.

........QUOTE: sounds like the throttle kickdown cable is stuck. what year is your car? if its a 93 than it has the cable if its a 94 and newer than it has no cable and the problem is internal.

Thats the other thing i noticed when I pulled the pan. The throttle valve on my tranny was not stuck but it had a lot of play in it, like the springs wasn't working. And i wouldn't say i manually shift a lot. just every now and then and always manually shift when i'm racing.

It sounds to me that your throttle valve was stuck and when you stabbed it, the valve broke free. Hopefully you don't have any damage. I think its to late for me. I pulled the pan and there is metal flake all throughout the fluid.

If thats the case, your governor is probably jammed up now from the metal, which is more than likely your planetary gears. Time for a rebuild.

As for you,....yeah, hes right, your T.V. valve is sticking, common problem with the 700. You need to get the valve body serviced b4 you ruin the tranny. That plays a huge roll in pressure control as well as shift timing. You'er playing with fire because its not going to fix itself, it will get worse and jam solid. There are aftermarket fixes or you could get a new valve body. The cheapest way is to place a spring behind the valve. The best way is to use an aftermarket kit to ream the bore and install a sleeve and new valve assembly that will cure the problem forever. For this you need a professional to do the work unless you want to fubar the valve body. Be careful where you take it because they will try to sell you a rebuild, or just pull your valve body and put the spring in it. Find a reputable shop and ask them if they know anything about the T.V. valve/sleeve repair kit.

The Trans-Go Performance Shift kit comes with the fix for the throttle valve problems.

Re: trany wont shift out of first gear help

thanks for all the info. I found a good tranny shop nearby that I'm getting a more built 700r4 from and will take the old clunker off my hands too. So I'm going that route.
