Transmission trouble

About a month ago my transmission stopped shifting. Its a 4L60E. I took it to a shop and they said it was two solenoids and after replacing them it worked fine. Then last night I'm driving and when I go to stop the trans makes a loud clunking noise and grinds when I take off. It isn't a real loud grinding sound but enough to know its a problem. Any one know what this might be? It gets louder the faster you go and it doesn't matter what gear though the higher gears don't seem as bad. I don't have the cash to get my tranny rebuilt. Anyone know what that might cost?

sounds like you may have a mechanical failiure in process , Personally rather than have it rebuilt locally I would look at a performance replacement trans generally they ened up being no more expensive than local and you get a better unit and warranty ,

This sounds like planetary failure. You can get a visual yourself by dropping the pan. If it's a planetary, you'll see alot of metal in the pan.

The cost all depends on how you want it built. Our 4L60E builds start at $700 and run up to $1400 for our "Pro Race" transmission. Unfortunately, our web page is down now for some reason.

Where are you located? You can give me a call at 302-250-1202, if you'd like to discuss it.
