Transmission questions
Transmission questions
95 Z28 (A4) 77,000 miles on her. Recently was told to get a trans. service. Basically they check fluid, look at seals, and I believe internal parts.(150 bucks or so) Only thing is it was CarMax who requested it. I have 1 year left on my warranty through them. I actually dont mind most of their work. Main question is, should i get it done by them? I was thinkin transmission specific place. I would have to double check and make sure it doesnt void my warranty for just a transmission serviced at another place. But should i get this done or kind of just let it slide? Fluid looks pretty much red to me, may have a light brownish mixed in. It doesnt look bright red or anything. Just wanting to know if its worth it or not. Ive heard that sometimes new fluid messes up transmissions worse than leaving the old fluid in there.
Another weird question? I usually drive in OD. Today I put it in D. Its been a while. I like to save as much gas as possible, but today felt like hearing my exhaust a little more. Of course it idles a little bit higher. But I went on the highway and didnt expect that much from 50-80mph it got on it and moved right away. In OD it hesitates a half second and then romps. Sometimes it doesnt shift right away in OD. It kind of stalls a little after 6000rpms or so. Sometimes it doesnt seem like it wants to shift. but literally only lasts a second or so but noticable. It just made me think about the trans. service. Sorry for long post. Thanks.

Re: Transmission questions
before you assume your transmission is going out, check your fluid level. if that is alright it sounds like your losing the friction material on at least one side of the 3-4 clutchs. a fluid change sometimes repairs line pressure problems but if you have internal problems a fluid change will only prolong the life of the tranny a little further before a complete rebuild is in store.
