transmission question

I'm new here and I do a lot of reading around through threads, and I came across something about a skip shift eliminator or something of that nature? What does this mod actually do? how much would it cost? and what are the advantages of doing it?

thanks in advance

Re: transmission question

If you have a 6-speed, they have "skip shift" (or CAGS - Computer Assisted Gear Selection). What that does is force you into 4th gear from 1st if you're driving slow off the line (unless you accelerate quickly, then it won't activate). It's there to improve fuel economy. The Skip Shift Eliminator is just a little 2k ohm resistor that plugs into the wiring harness and gives the computer a signal saying you're accelerating quick. I think they cost around ~$25 - $30, and don't take long to install. Well worth the money and hassle IMO! I wouldn't want the computer telling me when/how to shift!

Re: transmission question

It doesn't control the shifts, it engages a solenoid that interferes with your ability to shift from 1st to 2nd under light throttle. Shifter feels like it hits a stop, so you have to slide it over to 4th. Car nearly bogs down turning such low rpm in 4th, but it helps with mileage. Annoying as hell.

1st thing that should be done on an M6 equipped fbod.
