Trans Mount Question....

Ok I have searched all morning and have come to find out I have broke a tranny mount. Not unusual from what have read. My question is this: I have read that the ES mounts have an unbearable vibration. Since this is my DD I do not want that. The car has a shift kit with hard 1-2 shifts. I do not have a whole lot of mods. I was wondering should I just use a stock mount or go with the LS1 (since from what I have read the 1le is no longer available)?

If I go with the LS1 the only difference is the nut size right? It doesn't affect the ease of the install? It still fits without any modifications? I would go with just stock but with the shift kit and gears I was leaning towards the LS1 mount. I just want to make sure it's still an easy install.

Thanks in advance.

Go with the LS1 mount, or the vibrations quite likely will drive you crazy!!

It bolts in EXACTLY the SAME as the stock LT1 mount. They're just built a little bit better (a little more solid) than the LT1 mount, and there are a couple steel plates that sort of "hook together" (integral to the mount) that prevent it from completely separating if the rubber breaks apart.

That's probably your best option, esp. for a street car.

By my having a shift kit in the car, will that make me more prone to breaking the mounts?

^ YES.

I had a ES mount in my third gen and the vibs were unnoticed...even though it did have a decent camshaft as well. I would use the ES personally,b/c your just going to keep breaking stock ones.

I just ordered the 98-02 tranny mount and nut from Jason Kromer. The LS1 mount is supposedly stronger so we will see how that works. It cost $60 from him so we shall see if it works any better. If this breaks in the near future I will have to go with the ES mounts.

It's best if you're going to go with a urethane tranny mount, to go the whole
enchilada and get the engine / tranny set - go urethane at all three points.

I am gonna see how the LS1 mount does. If this one gives out I will replace with ES or Prothane mounts (engine and tranny).

I heard that you needed a nut that goes with the LS1 mount because it is a larger one than the LT1 mount. So I also ordered the nut as well. I will install it this weekend and we see from there.

That's quite possible / likely. Not a bad call.

But otherwise, there's nothing different about the installation as compared to your stock mount. Remove the nut from the mount (in the center, then drop the cross-member, un-bolt the mount from the tranny, bolt up the new one, re-install the cross member (helps if you use a jack to lift the weight ) and tighten up the mount (nut). Easy! ~20 minutes if you stop for a ~10 minute coffee break .
