tranny woes

I'm having a problem with the transmission in my '95 (135K on the odo). The shift points have suddenly started going wacky. Not being much of a mechanic, I'll try to describe what's happening.

It feels like it's not shifting until about 45 mph or even higher. It's probably going from 2 to 3 at that speed but it feels like it has not shifted at all. Also, when I put the tranny in drive from park, the car really jolts.

It does not do this all of the time (yet) but I have a sinking feeling that the tranny might need some work. I did some research in the archives and found comments about the need for a "shift kit" or even that the tranny should be rebuilt.

I'm about ready to tuck the car away for the winter and really would like to know what I will be faced with in the spring, as in $$$. Anyone know what might be happening here? TIA

You have to post in the correct forum. Questions about the tranny belong in "Drivetrain". I'll move the post there for you.

You also might want to add a "Signature", with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. Helps people provide you with the most accurate answers.

Hey Fred this thread was from 11-21-2006 and your just moving it now! To me it sounds like the OP's vehicle was in a limp mode condition. Basically only one shift and a high line pressure condition. I would scan it for codes first to see what is going on. Vince Bielanski
