Tranny temp. gauge pinned over 250 Deg. !!!!!!

I have a auto meter 2 1/16" tranny temp gauge on my a-pillar.
I have the sender in the pressure test port on the tranny. It
is an electrical gauge . My question (as well as brent frankers)
is the gauge pins itself over 250 Deg. within minutes of the car
running . When the gauge was pinned i took an Infra-red heat
gun and pointed it at the pan and it read 90 Deg
So i felt the pan and it was barely warm. WTF is going on ?
I own a 94 Z28 A4 . The same as brent but neither him or I
can figure this problem out. I tried grounding the sensor out
at the base of the sensor and still no luck. Whats really
fu(king weird is when i get on the throttle a lot the gauge
will jump erratically between 150-250 Degrees . When i let
off the throttle it goes back to over 250 Degrees. Any help
is appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like an electrical problem or the wrong sending unit for the gauge. Check you electrical connections and wire gauge size.

That definately sounds like a grounding issue, are you sure that you are grounding the guage correctly? I believe that there was a seperate ground wire coming out of the guage.. is that going to a good ground?

i have 2 autometer temp gauges, engine and trans, bought at the same time. the engine gauge read 125 as soon as i turn the key on. trans temp reads 80. 80 outside temps. the senders are the same. no bad grounds. i think its just a bad gauge.
