Tranny problems...best way to fix

Hello everyone....im from Alaska and im new to this forum...and recently i bought an 83 Camaro T-top 350 5spd and I was driving it around and i started getting a lot of noise coming from my tranny, so i tried shifting out of gear (5th) and i did successfully....but while downshifting, i went into third gear and was then not able to get back out of it...and the noise increased. Eventually later down the road....well actually more towards the edge of the road....my tranny locked up on me... and i abruptly skidded to a stop? any thoughts to why?

So to be able to tow the car, i had to jack it up in the highway and and take apart trhe rear u-joints and tie my driveline to my exhaust with a shoestring...i know how redneck.

But i eventually got it home and decided to take out the tranny myself...so i took the shifdt lever out from the console, and then disconnected the bell housing from the engine, and then ran into troube because i could not get the tranny down. it just sort of pivits there...any advice you could give would be much appreciated

Re: Tranny problems...best way to fix

leave the bell housing bolted to the engine, you need to un bolt the trans from the bell housing, 4 bolts and slide the trans out of the bell housing

sounds like your trans is going to be beyond repair(for a reasonable price)
