Post TRanny Problems

Hi Guys, whats up.

Need some major advise.
Had my 4l60E just rebuilt say 24 hours ago and after test driving it I am finding that it is not shifting into 2nd or 4 th gear.

Took it on the freeway and it wouldn't let go. Tried shifting it myself from 1st to 2nd and it stays in first and when I shifted to 3 rd it got in it but would not go to OD.

When I have it OD and start out I know it in first but if I dont let off the gas pedal it won't shift and goes directly to 3rd. And Vice versa when I go under3,000 RPM it goes back to first.

The guy that did my transmission says to use it like that for a week that it is the valvue Body that probalbly not flowwing well Trans oil had me put in a bottle of Lube guard red bottle no better results.

Whats your guys opinon on this. This guy had my car for 6 months in his shop saying he kneew how to work the tranny and I don't won't to put un necesarry money into it.

Your trans shouldn't be doing that and for the guy to tell you to drive it for a week and put an additive into it is disturbing. Even if he were to fix it, I would be skeptical of the longevity of the rebuild.

Your transmission builder told you what? The 2-4 band is on in 2nd and 4th. It sounds pretty obvious that the band isn't coming on for some reason. Either the servo or the band itself will most likely be at fault.

Thanks Guys

By any chance do any one of you guys think that by any chance the valve body is dirty or sticky and that with a shift kit this will correct and solve my the problem.

It has nothing to do with it having a shift kit, no shift kit, valve body having a sticking valve, etc. It is the builder most likely not having checked if the 2-4 band was properly anchored. If this was not done, you will not have 2nd or 4th gear. It is easily fixable, if this is the problem. Your transmission guy should have known this.... but I think you will have to find someone local (if possible) who knows these units well enough to solve this.

The shift kit won't fix anything, there is definitely something at fault in your tranny.

i wouldnt drive it like that, it'll cause more damage and then the builder still wont correct it saying that you caused it.... you should never have a "freshly rebuilt trans" thats not performing right from the git go. Not related brand wise... but the same situation happened to a friend of ours with an Explorer. Wouldnt shift out of first unless you realllllly got on it then it didnt want to touch third till it redlined, then fourth would kick in normal. The "mechanic" after having for like 6 months or better and had done a "complete rebuild" told her to keep driving it and it would work itself out in a few days. I almost had a heart attack after hearing all this. They ended up driving it a few times like that anyway and by manual shifting it wasnt quiet as bad, but still not good. He finally did something to it and it was better, but not right. they continued to drive it for probably 4 months, and one day out of the blue it starts missin an cuttin out real bad. I go over for a look, start it, give it some gas to see what all its doing and BOOM this thing starts smoking and smells like burning a clutch, pops like you took a hammer to the bottom of the truck, and takes off forward like theres no tomorrow. Its now locked into first gear. It was in park when that happened. linkage is all good everything. Every gear position is forward. so if its not right and you hear " Go ahead and drive it" you might want to rethink the whole situation.
