Tranny Problem

Ok, so I just got my 95 Z28 and yesterday I took it to AAMCO and they said I need a rebuild. Not to happy with the way the guy acted so going now to get a second opinion, but what I was wondering if I do fix it should I do anything to it while they have it apart? AAMCO told me $1800 for a rebuild and if its apart I might as well do other stuff if its manageable or if they will even do it for me with my own parts. Thanks guys!

I am sure this will get moved to the proper section, but look up the site sponsors too. They are very comparable in price and you will get a better build than tci too. Of course this is JMHO....

Thats what I was looking at, but I think AAMCO tried to screw me and Im getting it fixed for under $300. Anybody know how well the factory tranny holds with mods?

Re: Tranny Problem

I am not sure what the factory trans can hold up to but the rear should give out before the trans. Just don't manually shift the trans; that is really hard on the trans, just put it in drive and go. I am assuming you are talking about a A4.

They don't. In fact, I've broken several of them behind bolt-on only cars. And I don't beat the hell out of my cars, either. $1800 for a stock rebuild is a joke. I paid less than that for my Performabuilt, and only slightly more than that for the Rossler unit in my old car. If you plan to mod/race/beat on the car at all, seek out one of the vendors on here, or another builder with a good reputation doing 4L60E's.
