tranny guys...

maybe frank, have you ever heard of first gear burnouts burning up a tranny? i mean is it really that much better to allow it to shift into 2nd then 3rd if it can?

We have customers doing it both ways without any failures. I, personally come off the line-loc in 2nd gear with my '93.

I would see no reason why a first gear burn out would be any more damaging than any other gear wether manual or auto. In manual the forward clutch, overun clutch and the low reverse clutch are on which may help to support the sprags and roller clutches.and the auto first is the forward clutch with the low roller clutch holding but in either case these ae not generally considered trouble areas in the 4L60E and first is probably the strongest holding gear in the trans.
