Re: tq install

all you have to be able to do is pull the transmission and then slide the torque converter on and twist to make sure it is splined in the pump.

Re: tq install

Fill the new converter with 1/2 to 1 qt. of tranny fluid before you put it in.

Re: tq install

when I got my converter installed, I mentioned putting fluid in the converter before installing it and the guy installing it didnt want to because it might spill out when he's installing it. It was a used converter so theres probably still some tranny oil remnants in there, but could have little to no fluid in there on startup damage the converter or tranny??

No fluid in the converter at startup can immediately burn it out from what I understand. It fits about a quart...

When this topic comes up I always send everyone to the same link to Javier's converter install page, because that is what I found to be the best write up when I did mine...

Re: tq install

Yea that's what I've been told too Javier. Since it was used, I'm hoping there was still some lube in there so it wasnt getting burnt up on startup...

Re: tq install

I would reccomend laying the tc on its snout, the end that fits in the flexplate, and filling it FULL of ATF. then have a pan under the trans to catch any spillage during install. the more empty the tc, the longer the pump has to spend filling it instead of the passages of the trans. this can cause premature burnout and can really **** up your tc. just be ready to spill a lot. also, once its installed, it must spin freely and evenly. if you have any bindage or wobbling, you must reinstall it. but dont freak out, its really not very hard, just most trans have three hubs you must spline to, the stator support, turbine shaft and pump drive shaft. make sure your on all three by rotating it and sliding the tc off about a 1/4 inch and pushing it back on. if no additional distance is gained by this, you should be on all the way, then spin for allignment.
