Torque Converter, will it only help on the launch?
I am planning to purchase a Midwest torque converter. I was wondering will it only help on the launch? Or will it also help on a roll or when you are at 70 and punch it? Any help and information would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks.
It helps everywhere that you want to accelerate hard. Especially where you have dead spots with a stock converter. You know, when you floor it and it won't down shift because you're going to fast for a downshift. With a converter the absolute lowest rpm after flooring it will be the flash stall of the converter. Which will be way higher than with stock.
Not exactly the same topic, but you may find http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=174531 interesting.

While I don't know exactly how it works, I do know that when I went from a stock converter to a 3500 rpm stall, I could easily feel the difference at any speed. What kind of stall speed are talking here?
Hmm...I went from a stock converter to a 3500, and felt a noticeable difference. Then I went to a 2500 because the 3500 was beginning to have problems and I was having overheating problems at the time. Now I want to go back to a 3500 since I have since figured out the overheating problem, and I originally chose my cam for that stall speed. I need to just stick with one or the other. Lol
Ok, then why is it that when people install a torque converter they generally don't gain much if any MPH?? I will stand by what I said, an aftermarket torque converter will not help much from a roll, but it won't hurt you.

then added OR y-pipe, SSRA, and skinnies now 111.80
Yank converters are very efficient.
The reason that a converter doesnt really help with the MPH is because you are flooring it the whole time. While from a roll, or 70 mph, no matter what you hit higher rpms, either your trans shifts, or if the trans dosnt shift then the converter makes up for the trans not shifting to get you into higher rpms.
