Torque converter question...........

Will a Hughes 22-3000 stall converter be enough for a 388 stroker with cam and heads?

If I go with the 25-3500 stall it's like 120 dollars more! I would like less stall if possible for drivability. Plus the lower price doesn't hurt.

Re: Torque converter question...........

talk to your cam manufacturer, they will tell you what stall you need to work w/ your setup.

Re: Torque converter question...........

What he said ^^^^Converter choice is critical. Either talk to you cam manufacturer, or pick a converter company and talk to them about your set up, and goals for the car...Don't skimp here either, get the converter that will work well with your set up even if its $100 more...

Re: Torque converter question...........

I am not sure what your budget is but may I make a suggestion. I have been reading up on a company named Fuddle Racing Converters. The few comments that I have heard about them have been good. I personally know a guy that has one and says it is great. They will take all your specs like cam, weight of car, gear ratio and other stuff and will build u a custom converter that will match your set-up. Anti-ballon plates are standard in there converters which are good to have if u ever intend on using nitrous. They are very reasonable to at a price of $400, that is alot cheaper then some of the others I have seen. If u do a search u can find there web site and read up on them. Peace, Dustin.

I suggest calling Andre at Edge Converters with your motor/car specs. They make some impressive converters.

Re: Torque converter question...........

I have seen converters any where from 400-1000 dollars and am just trying to get one of good quality at a good value. Hughes was recommended by my engine builder. I suppose he can talk to the cam manufacturer to see what they say or he can pick it out.

I was wondering more about the road manners than anything else. However I don't want to buy a stall that's not enough for my application.

Calling Andre at Edge would answer all of your questions. He'll get the specs from your setup and custom make you a stall for what you want and/or need. He was very helpful to me. A custom converter is much better than an off the shelf one. Also Edge converters seem to rival even the PI Vigilante and for only around $500.

Go to www.westcoastconverters.com , I got one from them and it kicks ***! My transmission went out about a month ago I called them up and asked how much it'd be to cut and clean it.........he said send it back and he'd do it for FREE!!!! I sent it back about 2 weeks ago and now it already on its way back. He called me to let me know how things were going, I didn't even have to call him. Another thing about it is it's been OVER a year since I bought it......I'm a very happy customer!! My 60' times would be better if I could get traction (ALL stock suspension) but I've still managed a 1.7. I know I sound like a sales man but really I'm not, just very happy with the product and even happier with the customer service. Be prepared to anwser all kinds of questions about your car though cause the will be asked.

For all around drivability that kicks *** at the track I'm gonna recommend the Vigilante. My 3600 drives like a stocker until you nail it then its "hang on" time...Just ran several 1.55 60's at a local track with Spohn and Hotchkis suspension, nothing fancy...stock springs/shocks, both sway bars, etc...with 16x8s all around and 255 50 16 M/T Radials...The Vig is just plain phenomenal the way it "hits"..I can't explain it very well on-line..Its something you can only experience...Its worth every single bit of the $700 I spent...

I was running a TCI super street fighter 3200 stall and had about the same experience, was cutting 1.60 60's in a ext cab s-10 w/ a lt4 conversion, truck had stock suspension except for 3" lowering blocks and worn mickeys. Think I paid $525 for mine, it was a little loose on the street, so I see where the extra $ would have paid to keep it tight.

Mine drives like stock on the street also and like I say, it's not that it's no able to get lower 60' times it's the fact I don't have the traction. I paid $425 for mine. It was WEEEEEEEELLLLLL worth the $425 in my opinion. I don't know what they cost now but that's what they were a little over a year ago.

I don't know much about west coast's stuff...If it works for you and is cheaper then great...I got the Vig in 1996 so I think I got my $$$$ worth...

I second that idea. I am very happy with my 3000 stall Edge converter.
