Torque Converter Or Not?
Torque Converter Or Not?
So i have a 96' SS and i am thinking about doing a 2800-3000 stall converter but i've heard that i dont have enough hp yet to run a converter. I'm running loudmouth cat back, SLP air foil, and the ram air intake that came stock on the car. Should i go through with a converter or wait till more power? And if anyone does recomend a converter what application should i use? And how well it worked for you guys?
Re: Torque Converter Or Not?
Do you run your car at the track? Sticky tires? If so, a TC will be the best dollar per gain mod you can do. If you just run on the street, you might not be able to take full advantage of a high stall. I lost 4 full tenths with my Edge 3000. That's like picking up 50 HP for $525.
IMO, stall is the single best mod you could do, stock or not. Our motors don't make good power til over 3000 rpm stock, so it would help you no matter what mods you have.

Maroon is right it is the best mod per dollar that you can do, but as he also said you should definetly get some tires! DR's would be good for the street, you will notice a night and day difference with the new stall,
dont go cheap though get a Protorque, Edge or Vig . you wont be sorry
