Torque converter. Do I need a better one?

I'm not real sure what the torque converter does. I have a stock car besides the mods listed. Is a different one a good idea and would the gains be worth the cost of the part and the install?

You don't "need" one but, id definently get one if I was you. Basicly what they do is, your stock converter lets to rev it up to 1500rpms and still not turn the wheels over, however if you go to 2000rpms, you will be powerbraking. If you got an aftermarket 3000rpm stall converter, you could foot brake it up to 3k rpms without braking the tires loose, then launch. They will cut down et by a fair amount. Also being you have an automatic, when it downshifts you will always been in the power band, no 35mph downshifts into 2200rpms.

On a stock car or a modded car, an aftermarket converter is a very good mod for reasons outlined above.
