This is going to be a PITA without a lift, just FYI.

The trans will be held up by the crossmember. I think I had the body on jackstands so that I could raise and lower the rear end as I needed. I'm pretty sure I started with it raised up all the way. I also loosened the bolts to the rear end.

I remember 2-3 bolts holding the bushing assembly to the trans. One was a through bolt with a nut on the other end. Once you get it unbolted, I think you slide it off the TA. I remember cutting the bracket to get the old rubber bushing out.

The real PITA part is because the new poly bushing is larger and much firmer than the stock piece, so it takes a lot of force to get it both on the TA (this is where you use the grease) and in the bracket correctly. It has to be positioned correctly on the TA so that the bolts from the bracket will line up. Also try raising or lowering the rear end to get the right angle on the TA.

so it would be easier if i had the car up on four jack stands possibly? and also is it necessary to unbolt it from the rear? or can can i just do everything from the trans itself thanks for the help bro

It might be easier like that. I didn't have to unbolt it because I wasn't sure if it would be harder to get it back onto that end.

There's not too much room to work on the TA mount, it would probably be easier to remove it. Unbolt the the TA from the tranny first, then the rear end. IIRC, the A4 TA mount was a PITA.

If you get the rear end high enough it won't be that hard. It needs to be high enough so you can still crawl under and work on the tranny. Put the stands on the body and use the jack on the rear end. I think it was easier to jack up the rear end to loosen the bolts, then drop it back down to pull the bolts out the top of the housing.

You will need a grinder or power drill to break off the rivets holding the old bushing to the TA mount.

I thought I remembered doing that. We used a dremel I believe.

The new bushing goes in its place. Only your new one will sit on the TA and the bracket will sandwich it in there, instead of the old style where the bushing is 2 pieces attached to the bracket.
