Tips on removing plastic clip to be able to lock down shifter into 1st

Heres the deal i have a 95z only has od, d , 2 on shifter but i heard that there is a plastic clip i can remove to be able to lock down into 1st, i pulled the face off and seen the clip i need to remove, i also have a buddy with a 93z that has 1 on the shifter and when i looked at his he has a clip to but its also 2/3 the size smaller, what im wonderin is if i completely remove the clip will i screw anything up i go to ratchet it down into first and i goes too far. has anyone removed the clip and how did it work out??????

Almost everyone with a 2.73 geared car has removed this clip. If your car came from the factory with 2.73 gears it only had access to 2nd gear on the shifter from the factory. A car with 3.23's from the factory has access to 1st gear from the factory.

Just break that tab off with a flat head screw driver or something, and then you can select 1st gear.

Yeah mine came with a 2.73, a buddy of mines came with a 323 and he can select 1st but he still has a small clip, what im worried about is it going back to far when i remove the clip.

I used a hacksaw on my plastic tab and it took 30 seconds once i had the shift cover removed. the shifter goes down farther and does not hurt anything. have fun burning thru 1st without it shifting into second. lol
