Ticking Noise from Tranny Area - ?'s.
Assuming that it is a loose torque converter bolt , :
I found a picture of the inspection cover - see Looks tiny to me !
Think this has anything to do with me having a 2800 stall ?
Thanks !
Britt
- How long can it be driven "safely" ? ( I realize it is a crap shoot.)
- How hard is it to get to them ?
- And, are there any tricks I should be aware of ?

This morning on the way in, I gunned it a couple of times at 70.
The car would kick down, and then promptly start banging the rev limiter.
I first I thought that it might be spinning, but not at 70 on the concrete - even though it was raining.

Re: Additional Info.
if your trans just started hitting the rev limiter and did not do it before most likely you have overheated your trans a couple times to many with the 2800 stall. do you have a trans cooler? who did the install of the stall converter?
Re: Additional Info.
That picture you have may not be correct. All the 4l60e's I've dealt with do not have a removable bellhousing. The flywheel cover is much larger and is held on by 4 or 6 bolts. Once you get the flywheel cover off, its pretty easy to check your bolts. You will have to rotate the engine somehow (try a big screwdriver, and bumping it over real quick. All said and done it should take about 15 minutes, its a pretty easy thing to do.
Also, next time you have car problems, especially ones concerning loose drivetrain components....... DON'T "GUN IT"

There is an aftermarket cooler plumbed in series w/ the factory radiator unit - the stall was put in by an individual who was well respected in our local area.
I do not know how long this has been going on - I just noticed the noise yesterday.
The fluid was clean looking last time I checked - I looked again just then, and it looks OK , and does not smell burnt.

If the tranny is shot, that may actually be a good thing as I have an extended aftermarket warranty.
