throwout or pilot bearing? help & explain please
Thanks for your input!
I'll have to tear it down to see exactly has been broken. Is it hard to get the bushing out? I had a shop install it last time.
Also, did you just buy the clutch, pilot bearing and throwout bearing? Did you have to buy the whole kit or just the disk? I will have to look at the flywheel as well and hope it's fine however I've put some hard miles on the clutch....
Thanks,
Eric

If you have a centerforce now (from your sig) then the clutch is purchased as a whole unit (disc, flex plate and t/o bearing) or get a different setup (spec, gm, etc...). I personally like the centerforce so decided to stick with em', but if your problem is the clutch (as mine) then just choose the one that works best for your setup. I would recc. going with the pilot bearing vs. the bushing as the bearing reduces chatter and makes the tranny feel smoother, but others would argue their case. To remove the pilot bearing it's pretty easy, but make sure to swing by your local autozone to p/u a pilot bearing removal tool which is inessence a slide hammer. The tool didn't fit mine too well, so I destroyed the old bearing getting it out but it didn't matter as it was bad anyway. To install the new one, just grease the outside and tap it back into the crank lightly, be aware it's a pretty tight fit and might take a min. Also, make sure if you have to replace your clutch to take your flywheel off and have it resurfaced at a local machine shop, should only cost you about 10-20 bucks. Let me know if you need any further advise and what you find when you take her appart. Good luck.
