Thoughts on M6 conversion...
Got it done this weekend. A little time frame f I started on it at about 8:00 friday evening and by midnight the auto was out and from under the car. Had some things to do sat morning, so I didn't get to start on the car until about 11:00am. By 12:30 the clutch was setup and the bellhousing on. Took and hour lunchbreak to chill with the GF
. By 5:00 the holes for the shifter and master cylinder were cut and the M.C. installed. By 8:45 the M6 was in place being bolted in. Again, by midnight everything was bolted up, the new PCM installed (Thank you MadZ28) and I was turning the key over. Fired right up. Had to pump the clutch a few times to get it working right and went out on the road. Works flawlessly. The TO bearing made some noise for a few minutes, but it went away. And right now the MC wants to leak a little fluid inside the car.
I did 95% of this project by myself.... the only part I got help for was when my brother helped me get the M6 lined up with the bellhousing to get the bolts started. Other than that it wasn't hard at all. Just time consuming and tiring from torqueing all those bolts.
Driving with the M6 and 2.73s isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I have to slip the clutch a little more than I'd like to to get going in 1st, but that's about all. That should be no problem soon, as I should be getting my 3.73s installed later this week. I should be getting a million miles to the gallon right now too... was going down the interstate earlier in 6th at 80mph turning about 1450rpm. Didn't hit 2000rpm until 100mph (just being curious).
The swap is definitely worth it. My car's seems like a whole different animal.... especially up top. It definitely pulls harder than with the auto up there since the engine never falls below 4000rpm on any shift. I LOVE THIS THING!!!

I've been contemplating the M6 swap for some time now. I guess I've gotten rather bored with the car. Interestingly enough this happened after my wife took over ownership of my son's 01 Civic SIg. I drove the little sucker and just fell in love with the handling and the gear shifting and all that razzmatazz. So, it sounds to me like the swap is just what I need to regain the joy of driving my z28.
BTW, where did you get the parts?

Got the conversion kit from Scott at www.speedautomotive.com

Thanks for the info Caddie. I already have the 3.73 gears and I think that they will be up to the job. I'd like to get a better shifter right off, but I imagine that I'll have to wait on that too, since the wife will probably hit the roof when I tell her what this will cost.
Oh well, What is cheaper? Another car? An affair on the side?
