Thinking about 4:56 gears over my 4:10

I have a 94 camaro z28 m6. With all the bolt ons. Next summer I plain to have a 12 bolt intalled. I currently have 4:10 gears in the car right know. How is 4:56 gears - I mean is a big difference. I plain to run those new mickey drags in the rear. My question to people with 4:56 is - should I stick with the 4:10 gears or move up. I mean I went from a 3:42 to a 4:10 this summer and It was a difference. I would like to be able to get all this these new mustang cobras and z06 out of the whole

I'd stick with the 4:10's if it's pretty much a street car. Problem is that when you try and get those stangs and stuff, your gonna roast the tires goon on the street while your watching them pull away. And at the track, same results unless your running a good drag radial on a good track. Plus, if you start adding mor HP, your gonna run the risk of having to shift into 5th before the traps at the track with 4.56's. I had 4.10's in my stocker but dropped down to 3.73's in my 12 bolt for just that reason. But i'm also running a charger with the bottle. Kinda miss the 4.10's though. They were fun. And i'm sure with a real sticky tire, 4.56's would be even more fun. Just food for though.

I bet 4.56's would be a blast. But, I might consider 4.30's though to get a little bit in between what you have and what your thinking. Traction even with good tires would probably be almost nonexistant.

...play around with the ratios there if you want.

*Personally*, I don't think there would be much benefit, except on the street I guess? In the 1/4 mile, unless you're running taller tires and/or a real high red-line (~7000 RPM) then you're definitely going to be shifting into 5th, and I don't think that would be the best thing to do? Not only for the sake that you lose power, but also, it's another shift:blah:.

I think 4.10's are the right gear to have with 26" tires.

I have 4.33s and love them. A few of my ls1 buddies have the 4.56 and also love them. The ls1s are heads/cam 6 speeds and are cutting consistent 1.5s at the track, one even hit a 1.48 once.

They do get a tad annoying at 75+ mph with a "loud" car, but gas mileage isnt really that bad.
